The UHC Pro Cycling Team fought until the final finish line of the Amgen Tour of California to preserve Rory Sutherland’s high placing in the overall classification. In the end, Sutherland finished 7th overall, the top domestic based rider in the race, with teammate Marc de Maar finishing 13th overall. UnitedHealthcare’s Sutherland Takes 2nd on Queen Stage of Tour of California

After 135 miles and nearly 14,000 feet of climbing, Rory Sutherland of the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis sprinted to 2nd place in what was the hardest ever stage in the history of the Amgen Tour of California. Sutherland took advantage of an attack by teammate Marc de Maar with 25 km to go in the stage to conserve energy for the sprint, which was won by Peter Sagan (Liquigas), who took his second consecutive stage win. Rory Sutherland of the UnitedHealthcare team narrowly missed out on the podium in the 2nd stage of the Amgen Tour of CA. Sutherland was one of four UnitedHealthcare riders who made a select front group over the final climb of the day, the steep & treacherous Trinity Grade 20 mi. from the stage finish. The UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis rode a strong first stage of the Amgen Tour of California, covering 104 miles from Nevada City to Sacramento.
