Several months ago, I had an athlete write in, “I did a 40K Time Trial basically holding my wattage at my critical power point. I am also going to do shorter Time Trials of 5K and 10K. What power level should I strive for in these shorter distances?”
This follow-up reminds me of Car Talk’s “Stump the Chump.” Here’s the scoop…
In what everyone has named the hardest World Championship road course in at least the last decade, Webcor's Erinne Willock rode to a phenomenal 7th place in the Elite Women's Road Race. More than 120 women started the race and only 56 finished, with Erinne ending up in the very select group of 15 riders contesting the medals on the final lap. This was a career best placing at Worlds for Erinne. Read the race report...
I took the third sprint by coming around. Meanwhile, people were attacking. Marsha went off the front, but her teammate chased her down with me on her wheel!
On the 4th sprint I let Jane Rinard take it, as she was in the 55’s, and I took 2nd.
I could hear the announcer, John Beckman, and I knew that coming into the final I was in the lead, but only by 3 points ahead of Melanie. I had good shelter and was able to pass her, and everyone else, at the line to take it with 17 points. Read More...

First let me say that I read your answers to the questions and they are great stuff. I live in a very hilly area in Ruston, LA also known as the area of Piney Hills. Although not as hilly/mountainous as Colorado, it seems like I'm either going up or down a hill with very little time on flat roads. The hills range from 30-80 feet in climbing with generally anywhere from 5 to 19% grade (normally closer to 5-10%). It's generally 1-3 minutes to go up a hill. For exact specifics, you can take a look

With her win in the U23 National Championship MTB Race, Amy qualified a spot on the US team for the U23 Words MTB team in Australia. Here's her report:
I flew to Australia with a solid head on my shoulders, feeling confident in the training I had done in the preceding weeks & looking forward to good legs at a world class race. Little did I know that I should have been spending those weeks hucking myself off cliffs and preparing myself for a mix between downhill & trials... Read More
I'm a 56-year-old female in pretty good shape. I weight train 3X per week and cycle two to 5 times a week and usually average 15+ mph over 15 - 30 miles. My resting heart rate is around 56 and my max HR is around 180.
I live in Phoenix, AZ where we are blessed with a nearly year-around cycling climate. However our summer temperatures can be brutal to ride in.
